Why do you sell on Ebay? How did you get started?

Ebay is a great place to sell almost anything. We wanted to open our own business for the longest time but got stuck in the rut of everyday life. With a job, kids and a house life kept us very busy. I bought used electronics and games on Ebay for years. I woke up one day and decided this was going to be the day I sold something. Boy, what a big difference from buying. I had no idea what I wanted to sell. So I decided to sell what we had around the house we no longer needed. This was about three years ago. My kids were getting older and they did watch the old Disney VHS tapes anymore. So Cinderella and the crew were listed, sold and shipped to other houses. Old gaming systems and games were next. Good-bye the original Nintendo, Sega Gensis and old games like Mario and Duck Hunt. Next came older books lying around in boxes.

Then I ran into a big problem. No more old stuff to sell. Now what do I do? Somehow, somewhere I was led to Christianbook website. I found items they had on sale that I could then resell on Ebay. It worked pretty well but why would somebody buy something from me on Ebay when they could get it cheaper directly from Christianbook? I had to find a better way. That is when I decided to start my own business, get a business license and take the big leap. Boy it was not easy. The state of Maryland does not make it user friendly. What form to fill, how long to wait? After I received my business license I was on the hunt for distributors. I hunted on the web, phonebook, newspaper and magazines. Finally after several months I found two distributors in the US that sold Christian material I wanted to carry. I started to sell Christian karaoke, Christian movies and Christian comedy. I got so busy I had to ask my wife to help with the business. That is how Family Christian Media was born and I owe a good part of my start-up success to Ebay.

So yes you can to can sell on Ebay. Get your experience selling used stuff from around your house, find something you really enjoy to sell and get your business license.

Who is Family Christian Media?

Welcome to our new blog. We hope to create content about our business, our lives, and our journey in faith and share Jesus with others.

We started our business Family Christian Media almost three years ago. We have always wanted to start a business, but life just kept us way too busy. I was getting around that age 35 where you start to take stock in your life and think about all the things you wanted to do, but just did not get around to it. We started a small because we could not afford to take money out of our savings or our checking account. At that time it seemed like everybody was selling or buying on Ebay, so that is were we started. I admire those first customers who bought from us with little or no feedback. What faith they had to buy something from a newbie. At that time we were selling used items around the house. DVD’s, VHS tapes, old video games, books and such. I think our first book sold for $.25; that was the big bucks! Eventually we were lead to Christian materials like DVD’s, books and music CD’s. It was an exciting time; we had maybe 100 items we were selling.

Fast forward three years to the present. We currently sell on Ebay, Amazon and our website www.familychristianmedia.com . We sell Christian Karaoke CD’s, Christian Accompaniment CD’s, Christian Soundtrack CD’s, Christian Movie DVD’s and Christian Comedy DVD’s. We have over 1000 different items and our whole family is part of the business. It has also given our family some extra income so we can contribute to worthy causes like Compassion Child, Greater Europe Missionary and our church Cedarbrook.

This business is truly a family affair. My wife Sandy does all the packaging and shipping, lists all new products and help me with various miscellaneous items to need to be done with a business. My daughter Allyson does the inventory, cuts our bubblewrap, handles our mail inserts and other various miscellaneous items. My son Matthew will be old enough this year to help also. Our business and journey with God has brought our family closer together and allows my wife to work from the home. We are truly blessed.

We hope to provide our readers with interesting information about the products we sell, some hints and advice on running a business on-line and a way to get closer to God. God Bless.
